Officials advise cancelling large events as part of COVID-19 response

Manitoba public health officials are continuing to plan and implement enhancements to the provincial response to COVID-19.

On Friday March 13, 2020, officials suggested that large-scale events with more than 250 people should be cancelled or postponed as part of social distancing measures.

Social distancing means that people should reduce prolonged (over 10 minutes), close contact (less than 2 metres) between people in public. Individuals should also avoid things like handshakes or hugs when greeting.

Manitobans are advised to cancel all non-essential international travel including the United States.

Officials advise anyone who has returned from international travel to avoid visiting personal care homes within the first 14 days of returning to Manitoba.

The province has also added two more COVID-19 testing sites in Winnipeg. Mount Carmel Clinic at 866 Main Street and ACCESS Transcona at 845 Regent Avenue West. These sites are in addition to the ACCESS centres on Booth Drive and Plaza Drive that were announced on Thursday.

Additional resources have been added to Health-Links including a dedicated menu option when you call that service. Officials say that staffing has been doubled and the scripts have been shortened to reduce the length of calls once answered. Health-Links can be reached at 204-788-8200 or toll free at 1-888-315-9257.

People are asked to call Healthcares-Links before going to one of the testing sites.
