A 19-year-old male was shot and killed by police during an armed incident in an apartment in the first 100 block of University Crescent on Sunday, December 31, 2023.
Police had received a 911 call around 2:22 pm that stated a male may be armed and that other people were in the suite. Police confirmed that a 19-year-old female and a 21-year-old male were also in the suite during the incident.
When officers arrived at the scene they were confronted by a male armed with a knife. During the incident one of the officers fired their sidearm hitting the male.
Police provided the man with immediate medical care. He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.
No one else was injured during the incident.
Police say that the deceased and the other people in the suite were known to each other.
As the incident involved a fatality involving an officer the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) was notified and has taken over the investigation into the shooting.
