A 10 year veteran of the Winnipeg Police Service is recovering in hospital after he was dragged behind a fleeing truck early Friday morning, August 24, 2018.
Police say that just before 4:30 am they received a report of a suspicious male in a truck checking the door handles on other vehicles on Brookstone place near Waverley Street.
The officer, a member of the K-9 unit, responded and found the truck in the 2500 block of Waverley Street. He pulled the truck over and talked to the driver. The officer determined that the vehicle had been stolen and as he was attempting to arrest the suspect the man sped away dragging the officer a “significant distance”.
Although the officer did not receive life-threating injuries his injuries are none the less significant and he remains in hospital in stable condition.
Police are looking for the suspect and are reaching out to the public for any information about him.
The suspect was driving a stolen blue 2014 Toyota Tacoma double-cab truck with Manitoba plates HJW249. He is described as Caucasian wearing glasses and a dark coloured hat.
Anyone with information about the suspect or if you know the location of the truck you are asked to call 911.
The Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate.
