Selkirk RCMP officer not responsible for November 2017 crash

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has cleared a Selkirk RCMP officer of any wrongdoing after a two vehicle collision in Selkirk in November 2017.

The IIU say that on November 25, 2017, an officer tried to stop a Ford F-150 on Manitoba Avenue in Selkirk but the driver refused to stop. As the officer followed the truck the F-150 went through a red light at Main Street and Manitoba Avenue and T-boned a Chevy Cruze that had the right of way. Both the driver and passenger of the Cruze were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The IIU investigated the incident since a police officer was involved immediately prior to the collision.

IIU civilian director Zane Tessler concluded that the investigation indicated that the driver of the Ford F-150 was solely responsible for the collision with the Chevy Cruze.
