Officer assaulted during arrest on Notre Dame Avenue

Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a 26-year-old woman after she allegedly was damaging vehicles in the 300 block of Notre Dame Avenue.

The incident began around 4:30 pm when a member of the traffic division heard the suspect screaming and the sound of something being smashed.

While the officer was investigating the intoxicated suspect confronted the officer while brandishing a cleaver-style knife. The woman refused to drop the weapon so a Taser was deployed. The suspect eventually complied. As the suspect was being taken into custody she continued to be aggressive and kicked, punched and bit the officer causing upper and lower body injuries.

Desiree Starr Loonfoot has been charged for her alleged involvement with Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Resist Peace Officer, Disarming a Peace Officer, Possession of a Weapon, Mischief Over $5000.00, three counts of Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
