Off-duty Winnipeg Police Service Officer arrested for Impaired driving

A 52-year-old Winnipeg Police Service officer has been arrested and charged after crashing his vehicle into a tree early Saturday morning.

Police say that they were called to the scene of a single-vehicle collision at 12:20 am on Salter Street between Hartford Avenue and Belmont Avenue. The driver showed signs of impairment.

Police say the off-duty officer has been a WPS member for 19 ½ years.

Salter was closed for several hours as officers from the Traffic Division processed the scene and the crashed vehicle was removed.

He is facing charges for his alleged involvement of Impaired Driving and Drive Over .08 Blood Alcohol. He was released on a notice to appear in court.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is monitoring the investigation in to the incident.
