RCMP are praising one of their own after he rescued a man from a burning home on Thursday, December 5, 2019, in the RM of Hanover.
The off-duty officer from the Steinbach detachment was driving when he noticed a mobile home on fire on Clearspring Road.
Cpl Mike Martens called 911 and reported the fire then drove to the home. Smoke and flames were billowing from the structure as he pulled up.
As he looked at the fire, movement from the porch caught his eye. Entering the home Martens found a 40-year-old male. He pulled the man from the residence just as it became fully engulfed in flames.
The male was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No one else was in the building and no other injuries were reported.
RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner are investigating the cause of the blaze.
