Off-duty police officer assaulted after making an arrest

Winnipeg police say an off-duty police officer was assaulted after arresting a woman who had been brandishing a knife near Graham Avenue and Smith Street.

The incident happened on Monday, December 14, 2020, around 2:40 pm when the officer witnessed two females arguing. As the interaction between the two escalated one of the females pulled out a knife. The officer immediately identified themselves and ordered the woman to drop the weapon.

The female complied and was placed under arrest by the officer. While waiting for back-up the accused became agitated and assaulted the officer while trying to escape. she was unsuccessful.

A 21-year-old female has been charged for her alleged involvement with Assault a Peace Officer, Resist Peace Officer and Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.

The woman was released on an undertaking.
