Winnipeg Police Service is investigating one of its own for impaired driving.
According to Police, on December 8, 2023, an off-duty two-year member of the force was allegedly seen leaving a Henderson Highway business and suspected of being impaired. The officer was identified during the investigation and arrested at a residence a short time later.
The WPS Professional Standards Unit was notified of the arrest and continued to investigate. After a review by Manitoba Prosecution Services charges were authorized.
39-year-old Oleksii Gerasymchuk has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both
- Within 2 hours of Ceasing to Operate a Conveyance is Impaired with BAC Equal or Over 80mgs
Police say that the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is monitoring the investigation.
