Winnipeg Police have arrested a 35-year-old male in connection to an assault on an off-duty police officer.

Police say that around 3:00 am the officer encountered a male in the lobby of the police headquarters building who was interfering with a delivery person.

The female officer followed the male outside the building and was joined by two Police Cadets. While following the male he turned and attacked the officer.

The cadets along with an on-duty and an off-duty officer subdued the man and placed him into custody.

The attack led to serious injuries to the officer. She was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Bertram Charles Willcocks has been charged for his alleged involvement with Assault Police Officer.

Willcocks was detained in custody.
