The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating after assault allegations were made against a Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) officer.
On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, RCMP responded to an assault happening on Oxford Common Street in Portage la Prairie. When officers arrived they arrested an off-duty MFNPS. RCMP then reported the incident to the IIU.
The civilian director of the IIU has decided to investigate the allegation as it is in the public interest to do so.
Witnesses to the incident or anyone who have information or video footage that can help investigators is asked to call 1-844-667-6060.
