An off-duty Winnipeg Police officer was stabbed Thursday morning, November 30, 2017, around 3:30 am after he confronted a man trying to break into his personal car.
Police say the 10-year veteran of the force noticed a male trying to break into his vehicle that was parked near Graham Avenue and Garry Street right outside Winnipeg Police Headquarters.
The victim identified himself as a police officer. The suspect pulled out a knife and attacked the officer stabbing him in the arm.
The victim was able to call for help and the 45-year-old suspect, who was known to police, was arrested soon afterwards.
The victim in the stabbing was treated in hospital and released. He suffered non-life threatening injuries. It is expected the officer will be able to return to work in a matter of days.
Corey Clifford Whitford, 45, from Winnipeg, has been charged for his alleged involvement with the following offences:
– Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon
– Assault with a Weapon
– Possess Weapon
– Escape Lawful Custody
– Fail to Comply Conditions (Undertaking)
– Warrant of Arrest x 5
The accused was detained in custody.
