Observant off-duty cop key to large drug and weapons bust

Winnipeg Police have arrested three suspects and have taken drugs as well as multiple weapons off the street thanks to an off-duty police officer.

On October 30, 2017, just after 10:00 pm police say and the off-duty officer noticed a suspicious male with two other males in a business in the 1900 block of Bishop Grandin Boulevard. The off-duty cop knew that one of the males was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

General patrol officers arrived and found the three males inside the business. All three men were wanted and had outstanding warrants for arrest. Two of the men arrested were found to have a lot of drugs as well as weapons on them.

Investigators from the Street Crimes Unit continued the investigation and were able to get search warrants for two vehicles belonging to the suspects. When the vehicles were searched officers found more weapons and drugs.

Policed seized the following during their investigation:

.39 grams of an unknown substance
2 magazines – 1 loaded with Luger 9mm ammunition
56.4 grams Marijuana
63.38 grams of powder cocaine
79.3 grams of Methamphetamine
A black “bear claw” shredding tool
A box of shotgun shells
A hatchet
A Sturm Ruger, Mini 30, “Ranch Rifle” with a magazine loaded with three rounds of ammunition
An SKS style semi-automatic rifle
Gun Holster
Loaded 9mm Sawed-off Semi-Automatic Rifle
Rifle ammunition
Score Sheets
Smith and Wesson Model 659 handgun
Two “banana clip” style high capacity magazines, one loaded with ten to twelve rounds of ammunition.
Two Cell Phones
Weigh digital scale
Winchester Air Pistol
The Sturm Ruger, Mini 30, “Ranch Rifle” was found to have been stolen during a break-in which occurred in West St. Paul in April 2017.

Morgan Stuart Knott, 33 from Regina, Saskatchewan has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

Stephen Bartholomew Egesz, 33 from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with the following offences:

Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
Possess Weapon X2
Carry Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition X2
Possess Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order

Egesz and Knott were both detained in custody.

The third male arrested, 37 from Winnipeg was charged with Fail to Comply with Undertaking and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
