The Crown will not be appealing the decision in the a Tina Fontaine murder case.
In a decision last month the jury in the case found 56-year-old Raymond Cormier not guilty of second-degree murder.
Fontaine was found wrapped in a duvet in the Red River on August 17, 2014. Her body was weighed down with rocks.
The Manitoba Prosecution Service Appeal Unit and the attorneys who prosecuted the case reviewed the law and could not find any grounds to base an appeal on.
Under the law the Crown can only appeal a decision by a jury if there are errors pertaining to the law. The Crown cannot appeal simply because of public outcry or their dissatisfaction with the outcome.
