Nine people facing charges for night-light hunting

Manitoba Conservation have arrested nine people in two separate night-light hunting incident in September.

Conservation officers were on patrol during the early morning hours of September 18, 2020, near Hodgson, Manitoba, when they saw a spotlight shine across fields in the area. Officers intercepted the vehicle.

Two man and a female were issued appearance notices for hunting at night with lights. Officers also seized a 2009 Ford F150 pickup truck, two rifles and ammunition and a 12v spot light along with other hunting equipment.

The second incident occurred the next day on September 19, 2020. Officers watched as a light was shined onto a privately owned field west of Broad Valley and south of Fisher Branch.

Officers heard a gun shot and closed in on the area along with several other units. As they arrived on the scene they witnessed four people loading a deer into the back of a pickup truck.

The suspects tried to get away in the truck but conservation officers where able to box it in.

Six people were taken into custody and issued appearance notices for hunting at night with lights. Officials say other charges are still pending.

A 2017 Dodge 1500 truck, two rifles and ammunition, a spotlight and other hunting equipment, as well as a freshly killed white-tailed deer was seized.
