Nine impaired drivers facing criminal charges

Winnipeg Police Service has released the statistics from the first week of the 2021 Festive Season Checkstop Program.

Officers stopped 758 vehicles and conducted 99 roadside breath tests that resulted in four warns and nine fails.

All nine fails were immediately given roadside prohibitions and face criminal charges including four drivers who refused to provide breath samples. Five of those facing charges involved drivers suspected of being impaired by drugs.

Officers also issued 65 traffic tickets during the check stops.

The checkstop program continues until the new year.
