Charges laid in two incidents of night hunting

Manitoba Sustainable Development has laid a number of charges stemming from two night hunting incidents on December 10, 2018.

Conservation officers saw a vehicle turn on a spotlight to light an area just off the road near Ashern. The officers watched as the vehicle drove for over a mile with the spotlight on.

Two men from Lake Manitoba First Nation have been charged with hunting at night with lights, hunting on private land without permission and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

Officers seized the vehicle, a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup, a loaded rifle and a spotlight.

On the same night, aerial surveillance along PR 336 northeast of Inglis identified spotlighting. Ground units were guided to the area and officers found two men in the yard of a rural home. An Alberta man was charges with hunting at night with lights and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle. the other man from the RM of Riding Mountain was charged with hunting at night with a spotlight.

Officers seized the vehicle, the loaded rifle, a spotlight along with other hunting equipment.
