Four men arrested after they were seen hunting at night using a spotlight were convicted and fined in court says Manitoba Sustainable Development.

Conservation Officers and police from the RM of Cornwallis used an aircraft in December 2016 to patrol an area near Carberry after there were a number of complaints of people using spotlights to hunt at night.

Officers said that on December 12, 2016, at around 2:20 am a vehicle was seen from the air using a spotlight. As the aircraft observed the vehicle the spotlight was used several more times, lighting up privately owned fields near homes.
Officers on the ground were directed to and tried to stop the vehicle. The driver attempted to flee, lost control of his vehicle and ended up in a ditch.
Joshua Roulette, 25, Joseph Spence, 31, and Baron Kakewash, 44, of Portage la Prairie, and Mitchel Mousseau, 34, of Sandy Bay were arrested at the scene.

On October 30, 2017, the four men pleaded guilty to hunting vertebrate animals at night with lights. They were fined a total of $4,000 and also forfeited the truck they were in, a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado, a rifle and other hunting equipment.
