After several serious collisions and a fatal collision in 2019, the province has implemented new safety measures on Provincial Roads 206 and 213 (Garven Road) just north of Oakbank.
The speed limit on 206 will be reduced to 90 km/h north of Oakbank to 300 metres south of Garven Road (213). At that point the speed will be further reduced to 70 km/h and will remain that way until 300 metres north of Garven Road.
“This has become a problem intersection in the province and the safety measures currently in place are not making enough impact,” said Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler. “As roads in the community become increasingly busy, we want to make drivers aware that they are entering an important intersection. We urge drivers to slow down and be patient to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.”
During the summer the province installed rumble strips along Garven Road approaching the intersection. Flags were added to the “stop ahead’ signs and flashing red lights added to the stop signs.
The province says that these are interim measures while they study long-term solutions for the intersection which could include traffic signals or even a roundabout.
