Downtown Winnipeg residents now have increased access to primary care with the opening of a new minor injury and illness clinic at Misericordia Health Centre. Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara announced the opening today, emphasizing the government’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility.
“I am so glad to see more care coming to the West Broadway, Wolseley and surrounding downtown Winnipeg neighbourhoods,” said Asagwara. The minister highlighted the previous government’s closure of urgent care services at Misericordia, stating that this new clinic will address that gap and provide more flexible options for families dealing with less serious health concerns.
The clinic offers a range of services, staffed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, registered nurses, and primary care assistants. Critically, it’s equipped with on-site diagnostic imaging and medical laboratory services, enabling patients to often receive comprehensive treatment in a single visit.
Initially, the clinic will operate from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends and statutory holidays, aiming to accommodate busy schedules. Minister Asagwara confirmed that these hours will be expanded in the future. Patients can book same-day appointments online at https://medinav.ca/, and limited walk-in services will also be available.
Dr. John Reda, chief medical officer at Misericordia Health Centre, expressed his enthusiasm for the clinic’s potential impact. “Misericordia’s minor injury and illness clinic will help fill a critical need in Winnipeg, especially the city’s central community,” said Dr. Reda, who will also be working at the clinic. “We’re looking forward to providing vital, excellent care to our communities.”
Local resident Caroline Fisher, a mother of two, shared her experience with the challenges of accessing care for minor injuries. “When my son broke his arm last year, the ER seemed like our only option to get care,” said Fisher. “It’s relieving to know that we have another option with a minor injury and illness clinic in our neighbourhood. I remember using the urgent care at Misericordia, so many of my neighbours will benefit from having a clinic within walking distance.”
This new clinic marks the second minor injury and illness clinic opened by the Manitoba government, following the opening of a similar clinic in Brandon in September 2024.
