Manitoba is beefing up funding for a range of service delivery organizations that help newcomers in advance of the expected influx of refugees from Ukraine.
Fifteen organizations will receive a total of $5.1 million in provincial funding to provide a range of settlement services aimed at supporting the ability of newcomers to participate in the community, drive labour market attachment and contribute to economic growth.
More than half of the funding – $3 million – will go to Manitoba Start to connect newcomers to settlement, orientation, language and employment services. The remaining $2.1 million is split among 14 organizations for settlement projects across the province.
The province is hoping that about 6,000 newcomers will benefit from the projects aimed at helping people settle into Manitoba communities and participate in the labour market – both factors that increase newcomer retention.
