Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) has 23 new recruits joining their ranks after completing 13 weeks of training.
The member of recruit class #1901 was given their badges and welcomed to the WFPS by Chief John Lane in a ceremony on Friday, December 13, 2019.
“I am pleased to welcome these 23 new firefighter-paramedics into the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service family,” said Chief Lane. “They are joining our team of highly-skilled frontline staff who provide round-the-clock emergency services to Winnipeg’s residents, visitors, and businesses.”
The recruits underwent the intense training program as part of the WFPS hiring process. Recruits are required to already possess a firefighting level II certification as well as a Primary Care Paramedic license before entering the program.
The program teaches new hires firefighting, rescue and paramedic operations specific to the WFPS. They also learn about how the rank system works within the fire service as well as the history of firefighting in the city.
“It takes a special kind of person to dedicate themselves to a career like this, and we are very grateful for your commitment to serve and protect the residents of Winnipeg,” said Councillor Sherri Rollins, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks.
The new members will begin their new jobs next week.
