A 16-year-old male was arrested by the Nelson House Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on April 12, 2024, for possession of a firearm and other related charges.
The arrest came after the RCMP received a report at approximately 4:30 am that a youth had pointed a firearm at another individual in the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation before fleeing the scene. Officers obtained a warrant to search the suspect’s residence.
The search led to the discovery of a rifle and ammunition at the residence. The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence, and Pointing a Firearm.
The youth was already under conditions that included a curfew and a prohibition from owning, possessing, or carrying any weapon. As a result, he is also facing a charge of Breach of Release Order.
The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
