NATIONAL ‘PUSH FOR CHANGE’ CAMPAIGN ENTERS MANITOBA

Campaign hopes to end youth homelessness

Having started in St.John’s Newfoundland on May 1, 2016 the Push for Change campaign is entering Manitoba. This 9,000 km 17 month journey will end when it reaches the shores of the Pacific in Vancouver, British Columbia on September 30, 2017.

Push for Change, is a national awareness and empowerment campaign with a goal to help end youth homelessness. Joe Roberts, founder of the Push for Change and a former addict and homeless youth, is pushing a shopping cart across Canada to raise money and awareness for this campaign.

While traveling across Ontario the campaign teamed up with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to spread the message. On Saturday April 8, 2017 in Kenora, Ontario, the OPP handed over responsibility to help the campaign to Manitoba RCMP.

Roberts and the Push for Change campaign will be travelling across Manitoba beginning on Tuesday April 11 until May 8th when he and his supporters cross into Saskatchewan. While in Manitoba Roberts will be sharing his personal story with youth from across the province. The RCMP is helping the Push for Change campaign connect with rural schools as he makes his way west.

“This is an opportunity for all of us to start speaking about addiction and where it can lead our youth,” said Assistant Commissioner Scott Kolody, Commanding Officer of the RCMP in Manitoba. “More importantly, it’s a chance to tell our youth that there is always a way forward and that success, even after trying times, is possible.”
