Mysterious phone call prompts search for boy

RCMP are searching for a four-year-old boy and his younger brother after the Virden Health Centre received phone call seeking a doctor.

On October 22, 2020, around 11:00 am the boy who said his name was Jason called the health centre and said he was at home with his younger brother Hayden and his mom, who was sleeping. He told the call taker that he had hurt his toe and lives by a school and train tracks.

When asked if he could wake up his mother, Jason said he couldn’t. Medical staff then asked the boy to go to the neighbours for help. The staff heard the boy put on his winter clothes, walk outside and knock on two doors but no one answered.

Jason was then asked if his mom had a car and if he could tell the what the licence plate was. At this point the call disconnected. Medical staff could not call it back because it came from a blocked number. RCMP were then called.

Police knocked on dozens of doors in an attempt to find Jason without any luck. The health centre reviewed their medical charts to see if anyone who uses the clinic fits that description. Officers also contacted schools for any clues to the identity of the child.

RCMP say that they do not know where Jason was calling from. Manitoba First Nations Police have been called in to help find Jason and check on his family’s well-being.

Anyone with information that can help in this investigation are asked to call RCMP at (204) 748-2046.
