Mutual fight leads to weapons charges

Winnipeg Police were called to a fight between a group of people on Friday evening, June 2, 2023, near Dubai Street and Braemar Avenue.

When officers arrived they found a 29-year-old male armed with a machete. He was ordered to drop the weapon, which he did, and was taken into custody.

A 20-year-old male had been rendered unconscious after an assault by a 22-year-old male. The unconscious man was taken to hospital in stable condition.

The fourth suspect had left the scene before police arrived but he was located by members of the Tactical Support Team near Niverville Avenue and Hill Street and arrested without incident. Officers found a 12-gauge shotgun concealed on his person.

Investigators say that the males were known to each other and had gotten into a fight during a verbal dispute.

A 19-year-old male has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking

A 29-year-old male has been charged with Possession of a Weapon.

Both sispects were released on Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code of Canada.
