Murder suspect arrested in the killing of Yassin Abdu Ahmed

Winnipeg Police have made an arrest into the January 12, 2020 killing of 20-year-old Yassin Abdu Ahmed outside the Windsor Hotel.

Police had been called to the hotel just before 3:00 am for reports of shots fired. When officers arrived they located three males suffering from gunshot wounds.

All three were taken to hospital but Ahmed died shortly afterwards making this the second homicide of 2020.

Police say that Alrick Denon BANTON, 28 from Winnipeg was arrested on January 28, 2020 and charged for his alleged involvement with Second Degree Murder, Attempt to Commit Murder, Discharge Restricted Firearm with Intent (x2) and Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition.

Police spent much of the afternoon Sunday, January 12, 2020, in the parking lot beside the Windsor Hotel as they investigated the shooting of three men. (News 4)

At the time of his capture investigators found Banton to be in possession of a firearm magazine containing several rounds of ammunition.

Banton was detained in custody.
