Community member charged in murder of Gods Lake Narrows woman

RCMP in Manitoba have charged a 37-year-old man from Gods Lake Narrows with murder in the death of 22-year-old Crystal Andrews.

Andrews had gone missing on November 8, 2015, as she was heading home from a party after attending a Halloween social with friends.

Her body was found the next day on a trail in a wooded area of Gods Lake Narrows. Police determined that she had died as a result of a serious assault.

DNA recovered at the scene and witness accounts led police to identify a suspect.

On Wednesday, March 21, 2018, Michael William Okemow, 37 was charged for his alleged involvement with Second Degree Murder.

RCMP Chief Superintendent Mark Fisher who is in charge of Criminal Operations in Manitoba said “Charging the man who killed Crystal won’t bring her back, but it is one way we can honour her memory. She has not been forgotten. She will never be forgotten. I hope her family and her community can rest a bit easier now that the man responsible has been held to account.”

Okemow remains in custody.
