Winnipeg Police have arrested a 24-year-old male in the murder of Dean Wade Yurkiw.
Yurkiw was attacked on August 4, 2017, in the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue. According to police the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed Yurkiw before fleeing.
Yurkiw was taken to hospital in critical condition but later died of his injuries.
On July 4, 2018, police said that they had recovered DNA at the crime scene and although they had not yet identified the suspect they were looking for an Indigenous male in his 20’s standing approximately 5′ 7″ tall.
On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, police arrested and charged Zachary Brandon Roulette from Winnipeg with Second Degree Murder for his alleged involvement.
He was detained in custody.
