Police, firefighters and paramedics responded to a multi-vehicle collision on St. Mary’s Road at Essex Avenue minutes after midnight on Sunday, July 31, 2022.
When crews arrived on the scene they found one vehicle on the sidewalk, a taxi in the intersection and a third vehicle that had a large section of its fender protruding into the roadway.
The four people in the blue vehicle fled the scene according to sources.
Witnesses say that the blue car was travelling at an extremely high rate of speed before the collision happened.
Paramedics treated three people, two passengers and the driver, from the taxi and transported them to the hospital in unstable condition.
Sources say officers searched the area and located the people who had fled the scene several blocks north at St. Mary’s Road and Canton Street. Paramedics treated several people at that location transporting three to hospital in stable condition.
Police had one person in custody at the secondary scene.
Northbound St. Mary’s Road was closed to traffic as crews worked to treat the injured and clear the debris that covered the roadway.
The taxi had extensive damage to both the front and back of the vehicle. The vehicle on the sidewalk had significant damage to the front end.
Police were on scene talking to witnesses as they investigated the cause of the collision.
