Emergency crews were called around 7:30 am for reports of a grass fire in Symington Yards on Saturday, May 27, 2023.
When firefighters arrived they found a kilometre long grass and brush fire. A Bison wildfire vehicle was deployed while other crews used hand lines to pour water on the fire and stop it from spreading to rail cars and buildings on the site.
The fire was declared under control at 8:51 am.
It is believed that a train moving through the yard with a faulty spark arrestor is what sparked the blaze.
