Mountie cleared in domestic assault case after IIU investigation

The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba has cleared an RCMP officer after he was alleged to have been involved in a domestic assault.

RCMP ‘D’ Division Headquarters received a complaint from a third party about an incident that allegedly occurred on August 31, 2017, as well as a number of previous dates as well involving an RCMP officer and a relative.

The RCMP contacted the IIU and it was determined by the civilian director, Zane Tessler, that it was in the public interest to investigate even though no injury had occurred.

IIU investigators, after talking to the alleged victim determined there was no evidence an assault had occurred.

The victim denied ever being assaulted by the officer. They also denied disclosing to a third party anything concerning any violent act by the officer.
