Mountain Avenue fire contained to a single suite

Residents of a three-storey Mountain Avenue apartment building were evacuated into the cold late Friday night after reports of a fire came in around 10:21 pm.

As crews arrived on the scene they encountered white smoke coming from a suite. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 10:50 pm.

A Winnipeg Transit bus was brought in as a warm-up shelter for residents as they waited for it to be safe to return to their suites. No injuries were reported.

Damage was contained to the suite where the fire began. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
