Motorcycle Collision on Highway 44 Leaves One in Critical Condition

In the early hours of July 29, 2024, a serious motorcycle collision occurred on Highway 44, approximately one kilometer east of Highway 59. At around 12:45 am, Selkirk RCMP responded to the scene and found the motorcycle driver, a 24-year-old male from Winnipeg, with life-threatening injuries. He was promptly transported to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigations revealed that the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Highway 44 when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck. The driver of the truck failed to remain at the scene of the collision.

Information gathered at the scene led officers to an address on Henderson Highway, where they found the suspect vehicle with the driver asleep at the wheel. The driver, a 30-year-old male, was arrested for Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm and taken to the Selkirk RCMP Detachment. There, he provided breath samples for analysis.

The suspect was later released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on November 8, 2024, in Selkirk. He faces charges of Operation while Impaired over 80 mg% Causing Bodily Harm and Failure to Stop after Accident resulting in Bodily Harm.

The Selkirk RCMP continues to investigate the incident.
