Motel fire sends smoke high into the air along Highway 1

If you were travelling along the Trans-Canada Highway near McMunn, Manitoba, about 100 kilometres east of Winnipeg, on Sunday, May 8, 2022, you may have noticed a large plume of smoke billowing into the sky.

A major fire in an abandoned motel and gas bar had firefighters from the RM of Reynolds battling the blaze for much of the day. The building was totally destroyed during the fire. An excavator was brought in to help firefighters locate hotspots and fully extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
