Most COVID-19 restrictions to end including mandatory masks indoors

Manitoba amends public health orders that will see most restrictions eliminated and several others relaxed.

Beginning on August 7, 2021, Manitobans will be able to gather without restrictions both indoors and out at private residences. Restrictions have been lifted at gyms and fitness centres, libraries, retail businesses, markets, garden centres and shopping malls. Personal services like hair and nail salons can operate at full capacity with out restrictions.

Restaurants and bars will have most of their restrictions lifted including restrictions on who can sit at tables and the size and space between tables. Patrons will still be expected to avoid congregating or socializing between tables and maintain social distancing when away from the table. Dance floors remain closed and a restriction on sound levels is in place.

Weddings, Funerals and other public gatherings both indoors and out will have larger capacity limits as will worship gatherings and cultural events like pow wows.

Movie theatres, museums and galleries will still be limited at 50 per cent capacity but will no longer be restricted to those who are fully vaccinated.

Casinos, bingo halls, professional sporting events, horse racing, auto racing and concert halls will remain limited to those who are fully vaccinated but can operate at 100 per cent capacity.

Indoor and outdoor sports and recreation will be fully open but limits on spectator capacity will remain in place.

Manitoba Public Health is no longer recommending working remotely.

Public health is also recommending that people who have not been fully vaccinated continue to were masks in indoor public spaces. It is also recommended that physical distancing continues to be practiced in indoor settings.

“Unless you are fully immunized, you are still at risk for more severe effects of COVID-19, such as requiring hospital care or even death,” said Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba’s chief provincial public health officer. “We are slowly but surely approaching a post-pandemic Manitoba, but this does not mean COVID-19 will disappear. We need to remain cautious and vigilant in our efforts to stop the spread of this virus.”

The new orders will remain in place until September 7, 2021 at which point they will be reassessed.
