More Fires Set Over Weekend

Several more fires were set over the weekend adding to the workload of the WPS and WFPS Arson Units. Fires on Manitoba, Forrester, Redwood and Waller Avenues are all suspicious incidents that occurred on the weekend. There were also a number of garbage bin fires.

Officials are bracing for more incidents this week as warmer weather usually brings an increase to intentionally set fires.

In the early 2000s a rash of arsons throughout the city, similar to what is being experienced now, sparked the creation of the Arson Task Force. It was a specialized unit that consisted of City Fire and police investigators as well as investigators from the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
