More clinical health psychologists added to reduce wait times

Manitoba is adding five clinical health psychologists to help reduce wait times for children, youth and adults.

Clinical health psychologists specialize in providing therapies to treat mental health conditions. The new psychologists have been earmarked to work in a number of areas with two providing services to adolescents, two providing adult services and one working closely with the justice system in adult forensic services.

“We heard from experts in the field and directly from families in the community that timely access to psychological services saves lives and changes lives for the better,” said Mental Health and Community Wellness Minister Sarah Guillemard. “Recruitment of these five new, highly skilled health-care professionals is a key first step in better meeting the needs of Manitobans by reducing wait times for diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses.”

Manitoba has already began the recruitment process.
