Missing Split Lake man found dead likely from exposure

Thompson RCMP and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are investigating after a missing Split Lake man was found dead.

Police say that the 32-year-old victim disappeared into the bush near Split Lake after he was approached by a First Nations Safety Officer (FNSO) in the community around 11:00 pm January 23, 2020.

FNSOs attempted to find the man after he had run into the woods but were unsuccessful.

RCMP in Thompson was contacted about the missing male on Saturday, January 25, 2020, just before 1:00 pm.

A search of the area with an RCMP Police Service Dog on Sunday located the male’s body.

Although it is suspected the man died from exposure the investigation will continue pending the outcome of an autopsy.
