Missing licence plate results in drug and weapons charges

Winnipeg Police have four people in custody after a community support officer noticed a vehicle travelling towards him on Higgins Avenue with out a front licence plate.

The officer turned around and was able to catch up to the vehicle several blocks away near Higgins and Waterfront Drive.

The officer spoke to the four people inside the vehicle bur during those conversations noticed a number of things that appeared suspicious in nature. The occupants were removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest.

Officers search the vehicle and found a number of items including:

  • A loaded sawed-off 12 gauge shotgun with the hammer drawn back and ready to fire
  • Three 12 gauge shotgun shells
  • Five .22 calibre ammunition cartridges
  • Bear spray
  • Approximately 7.4 grams of methamphetamine (estimated street value of $300)
  • $617 in Canadian currency
  • Two scales
  • Drug paraphernalia 
  • Packaging materials

A 31-year-old male, a 30-year-old female, a 29-year-old female and a 24-year-old female were charged with a number drug and weapons offences including Drug Trafficking Meth, Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm.

All four suspects were detained in custody.
