Winnipeg Police Service River Patrol rescued a missing child from the Red River on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
Police say that the 6-year-old male had run off from the 600 block of Oakenwald Avenue and had a known attraction to water. Police searched the area including the riverbank. River Patrol members located the child in the river near the 600 block of South Drive. A patrol member went into the water and rescued the child, who police say appeared to be monents away from going under the water.
The child was safely returned to his caregivers.
