Boater found after spending night on Lake Manitoba

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP say a missing boater was located on Lake Manitoba around 3:00 pm Saturday, July 20, 2019, after not returning to camp Friday night.

Police say the 60-year-old man was last seen Friday around 5:00 pm fishing in his boat on the lake. The man did not return to camp that night and local campers began a search of the water Saturday morning.

When RCMP got the call the man was missing just before 9:45 am they responded with their Search and Rescue team and came to the conclusion that the boater may have drifted across the lake to the Ashern or Lundar area. An air search was initiated with help from Manitoba Sustainable Development and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

The boater was in good sprits when he was located and was not hurt.
