Manitoba First Nations Police K-9 unit makes first arrest

Less than two weeks after completing training Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) K-9 Unit made its first arrest.

It happened early this morning, May 24, 2019 on Birdtail Sioux First Nation.

Police had been called to a home in the community after an assault causing bodily harm had occurred. When officers arrived they learned the suspect had fled before police arrived.

The MFNPS police service dog ‘Ceto’ and its handler tracked the suspect into the bush. It didn’t take long before the suspect was located and placed under arrest.

MFNPS K-9 Unit is a new team that came into service after the completion of training on May 15, 2019.
