Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in a Matheson Avenue East bungalow around 6:40 am on Thursday, August 18, 2022.
When crews arrived on the scene they found the home fully involved with smoke and flames. An offensive attack was launched. Firefighters deployed a Flameguard X-Tinguish Fire Suppression Tool, an aerosol device that reduces temperatures and suppresses flames allowing for safer access. The device was unable to suppress the fire due to advanced fire conditions and crews were forced to transition to a defensive attack as conditions quickly deteriorated.
Officials say that the house has been declared a complete loss and heavy equipment is being used to tear down the building and allow firefighters access to hotspots.
There was no one inside at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
