One of Manitoba’s most wanted captured by First Nations Police

Manitoba First Nations Police Service has captured one of Manitoba’s most wanted.

Police say that 29-year-old Edward (BJ) Sutherland from Sandy Bay First Nation was wanted on several outstanding warrants by RCMP and Manitoba First Nations Police.

Sutherland was taken into custody after trying to evade capture in Sandy Bay First Nation.

Around 2:00 pm on Friday, December 13, 2019, MFNPS officers on patrol in the community spotted a white SUV and attempted to stop it. As soon as officers activated the emergency lights and siren the SUV sped off.

Officers chased the vehicle for about 30 minutes before it came to a stop in a field west of Sandy Bay. A female jumped out and tried to flee but was apprehended by police immediately.

The suspect also jumped out of the vehicle and made a beeline for the nearby bush. After a 10-minute foot pursuit, he was arrested.

Sutherland was processed on the outstanding warrants and will be facing additional charges.

The female also has charges pending.
