On Wednesday March 18, 2020, Manitoba Public Health advised that the total confirmed and presumptive cases in the province remains at 15 at this time.
Six of the seven new presumptive cases reported on Tuesday March 17, 2020 appear to be related to travel. The cause of the seventh case is still being investigated,
Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba’s Chief Public Health Officer, urged people to continue with social distancing practices and avoid groups of more than 50 people.
“This is not the time to be going out to crowded bars or to restaurants. Now is the time to ensure we’re distancing ourselves from others. Avoiding the close prolonged contact with others and staying home when we can,” said Roussin.
Roussin continued to strongly urge Manitobans to cancel or postpone international travel.
“We can see that the vast majority of cases in Canada are travel related,” Roussin said. “Now is not the time to travel outside of Canada. Please cancel or postpone any travel plane outside Canada.”
430 people were tested for COVID-19 on Tuesday at the dedicated testing sites. Over the past six days more than 2,100 Manitobans have been screened.
Public Health has opened a new screening centre in Brandon as of today in the Nurses’ Residence Gym at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.
Officials are reminding Manitobans that the COVID-19 screening centres are not walk-in clinics. Call Health Links who can assess if a COVID-19 test is needed. Health Links can be reached at 204-788-8200 or 1-888-315-9257.
