Early Sunday morning a lone gunman walked into Pulse, a gay night club in Orlando, Flordia and began shooting. By the time the shooter was done 49 were dead and another 53 were injured. Police eventually stormed the night club and shot and killed the shooter, 29 year old Omar Mateen.

The Manitoba vigil, organized by Pride Winnipeg, was attended by community leaders, concerned citizens and politicians. In a moving speech Mayor Brian Bowman called on the crowd by saying “Don’t let those bastards win”.

Premier Brian Pallister was noticeably absent but Minister for the Status of Women Rochelle Squires spoke on behalf of government.
