Manitoba spending $358 million for health care capital projects

Manitoba announced on Monday June 29, 2020, that they will be investing $280 million for safety upgrades to personal care homes, $46 million for digital health initiatives and another $32 million for equipment and upgrades at health-care facilities.

The safety and capital upgrades to personal care homes are to bring facilities up to the current Manitoba Fire Code requirements. These upgrades will include fire suppression systems and improvements to fire separation within facilities.

Digital health investments include upgrading the electronic health record system, replacing a voice recognition system used for dictation and transcription and upgrading hardware and software used across the health-care system.

Within health-care facilities 85 safety and security projects are being funded across the province.

The province will also be purchasing more than 150 pieces of equipment including equipment for microbiology and virology, gastroscopes, endoscopes, colonoscopes, anesthetic machines, fetal and cardiac monitors, surgical tables and instruments, newborn bed warmers, hypothermia heating units, stress exercise equipment and bladder scanners.

Construction projects will begin once the tendering process is completed and contracts awarded.
