Beginning Tuesday, February 15, 2022, Manitoba will no longer have capacity limits in restaurants, licensed premises, entertainment venues, indoor and outdoor sporting events, casinos and at private residences.
Capacity limits will still apply for indoor gatherings in public spaces, Weddings and Funerals, Indoor religious services and Indigenous cultural events if it includes one or more unvaccinated people.
On that same date close contacts of a person who tests positive for COVID-19 will no longer have to self-isolate. Self-isolation for those entering the province will be eliminated but international travellers will still be required to follow the federal Quarantine Act. Travel restrictions to northern Manitoba remain in place.
Youth aged 12 to 17 will no longer be require to provide proof of vaccination or recent testing to participate in indoor sports or recreation.
“Based on the information and data monitored by public health, we are seeing strong signals that the Omicron wave has peaked and is now having a reduced impact here in Manitoba,” said Dr. Brent Roussin, chief provincial public health officer.
Beginning March 1, the province plans to remove proof of vaccination requirements followed by removal of mask restrictions as of March 15.
“It is because of Manitobans’ collective efforts and dedication, compassion and willingness to protect one another that we are able to move forward once again to lift restrictions and allow Manitobans to get their lives back,” said premier Heather Stefanson.
