The province of Manitoba is asking the legislature for permission to spend more than a half-a-billion dollars more on COVID-19 response.
The money will give government departments additional spending authority in the 2020-21 fiscal year. It would provide authority to distribute federal funding to municipalities, invest in new infrastructure as part of the provincial restart program and provide additional supports to education.
In April the provincial government had $1 billion approved for COVID-19 response the Appropriation Act, 2020. If approved the new spending for the 2020-21 fiscal year will rise to $1.577 billion
